Saranac Elementary School

The elementary students (and community members) raised $7,047.61 during the month of February! This is the most money we have ever raised, and it has such a great impact on people with heart disease and heart conditions. Also, Mrs. Jorgenson's class was rewarded with a $25 Amazon gift card for having raised the most money by a class. Our school is also receiving a $500 gift certificate for new PE equipment from the US Games. Over the last 5 years, our school has donated a total of $23,557.18 to the American Heart Association. What a great impact for a very good cause!

The JSH will be holding 7th and 9th Grade Orientation Night for current 6th and 8th grade students and parents next Tuesday, April 16th at 6:00 PM in the JSH auditorium. This will include a presentation, building tour, and question and answer session.

Saranac families with students in grades Young 5 through sixth grade can now register for the mileage club. A flyer will be going home with the students later this week. The mileage club will be starting soon!

The Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Saranac Community Association has been rescheduled to April 13 at 4:00 pm at Scheid Park.

2024 Quilt Show for Dolly Parton Imagination Library Ionia Imagination Library The 2024 annual quilt show will be held this Saturday March 16th from 9-1 at the Ionia County Intermediate School District. This year we are featuring approximately 58 quilts in the Silly Safari theme, highlighting all those fun animals you would see on a trip to the wild lands of Africa. In addition, we have The Little Engine that Could quilts and a few Christmas quilts in the show. In total there will be over 80 quilts available on this day. This year we will be doing a sale and a raffle. If you are interested in purchasing a quilt, you may do it on the day of the show from 9-1. The cost for a quilt is $135.00 and that sponsors a child in the program for an entire year, giving them a complete home library of 60 books. At 1:15 we will raffle off any remaining quilts. Tickets for the raffle are $5.00 per ticket or $30.00 for 10 tickets. This amount sponsors a child for one year in the program. Tickets will be available on the day of the show but can also be purchased in advance at: Alvah A. Belding Library, Ionia Community Library, Biggby in Ionia, Michigan One Community Credit Union in Ionia, Portland Library and the Ionia County Intermediate School District office. The program is serving approximately 2000 children each month by providing a book mailed directly to their home. Every child birth to five that resides within the Ionia Intermediate School District is eligible to participate. This early literacy initiative is completely funded by community donations. The quilt sale and raffle is our largest fund-raising event of the year. We hope you are able to stop in and view an amazing art show, have a treat or two and purchase a quilt or ticket to support the program. Our favorite month of the year starts on Friday. During March, we celebrate reading. Reading is a tool that opens doors for our students. This year, our theme is "For the Love of Reading!" Below is our calendar with most of our activities for the month. We do have a few surprises for our students throughout the month. Happy Reading!!

Thank you for being so supportive of the Ionia County Relay for Life! Our school raised nearly $400! Ms. Reed's class raised the most money and will receive a pizza party. On TUESDAY, our school will wear purple as part of our support for the Purple Out basketball games.

Monday, February 5th is girls’ youth night. All youth girls’ basketball players are invited to attend the JV and Varsity girls’ games to cheer on the teams. During halftime of the JV game, players can shoot baskets while the varsity team rebounds for them. For the varsity game, all youth players will sit in a special section behind the varsity bench. Immediately after the game, the varsity team will be in the cafeteria to greet all youth players and autograph team posters for youth players.

We are looking for a volunteer ticket taker for todays' wrestling match from 4:20 PM to approximately 6:30 PM. This match will include youth and varsity wrestlers. Contact Andrew Clementz at 642-1100 or clementzand@scs-staff.org. Thank you!

SCS will hold school with a two-hour delay today, Wednesday, January 24th. There will be no AM Career Center. The JSH will start at 9:40 AM and the elementary will start at 9:45 AM. Drive safely!

Our school is participating in the life saving community service project, Kids Heart Challenge.  Register your student today and help families in our community learn Hands Only CPR! Alongside this year’s heart heroes, we’re learning about healthy hearts and life lessons like getting active, resting well, and being kind.
