Interested in getting involved with the school? A fantastic way to do so is by joining our PTSO meetings. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet and work with a friendly group of parents. Our first meeting of the year is on September 16th at 6:00 pm.. We meet in the large conference room in the elementary school. We truly hope you can join us—I look forward to seeing you there!

Monday, September 15th, we are celebrating International Dot Day. We will have some fun activities that the classes will be encouraged to do with their students. Help your child get in the mood for this event by having them wear clothing with dots on it!

We have our first Pizza Hut Fundraiser for the year. This is a great way to raise some extra money for the school. Simply follow these steps if you visit the Ionia Pizza Hut on Tuesday.

Today is the first day of school, and it is a half-day of instruction. The elementary school starts at 7:45, and we dismiss at 11:00. We can't wait to see all the kids and have a great year.

Attention: The Elementary School's office will be closed tomorrow, Friday, August 22.

Our elementary open house is happening today from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Stop by to have your kids meet their teacher for the upcoming school year. Kona Ice will be back for our first fundraiser of the year. The proceeds will go towards supporting school activities. We can't wait to see you!

Young Fives popsicles in the park will be on Aug 12 at 6:30. This is a change of date and location for this event.

Our elementary office staff has returned. Our office hours until school begins are generally Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, Aug 6, the office will have limited hours due to a training. Our hours on the 6th will be from noon to 3:00 p.m.

We are frequently asked what kids can do over the summer to continue making gains instead of experiencing the dreaded summer slide. A few helpful suggestions include having students maintain some type of routine with regular bedtimes and dedicating part of the day to acadmeic activites. These activies can include a trip to the library, a nature walk where they identify different things they see, or practicing math facts. We know that many kids love their tablets. The school has licenses for all of our students for IXL. https://www.ixl.com/signin/saranac IXL is an excellent way for kids to practice both reading and math skills. Students used this program during the school year and have usernames and passwords. Students should have taken this information home with them on he last couple of days of school. If they don't have this information, you can click' Forgot Password/Username'. All students were registered with their school email address. The student email format is the first 5 letters of their last name, followed by the first 3 letters of their first name, and then a zero (@) and saranacschools.org. i.e catremik0@saranacschools.org

Reminder: SCS will be conducting athletic physicals this Friday for K-12 student athletes in the JSH cafeteria from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The cost is $20 per athlete. Thank you again to Dr. Barker for providing his services. Due to construction on Otto Laabs Lane, participants will need to park in front of the JSH.

The Saranac FFA will be having their annual plant sale Tuesday, May 20 at 3-5pm. Due to greenhouse construction, there will only be tomato and pepper varieties available. Pepper varieties include Red, Yellow, Hot Banana and Jalapeno. Tomato varieties are Better Boy and Mariana Roma. $1 for a pack of 4 plants.

Saranac Community Schools will be closed today, Friday, May 16th, due to multiple road closures and downed power lines. Stay safe!

Hello Parent/Guardians, There is a mobile dentist program that is coming to Saranac Community Schools on May 1, if we have enough students register that qualify. We have extended the deadline for registering for this until April 25. "Dentist at the School Day" will bring complete exams, X-rays, cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, and other basic restorative care to our students free of cost!
